Central ministers held talks with farmers protesting on the Punjab-Haryana border yesterday.

Talks were held in Chandigarh yesterday (February 22) between the farmers, who are protesting for various demands including a legal guarantee for minimum support price for crops, and the central government.

Central ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Piyush Goyal and Prahlad Joshi participated in the talks held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh on behalf of the central government. State ministers Harpal Singh Seema and Gurmeet Singh Kudin and other representatives from the Punjab government participated, and representatives from the farmers, Jagjit Singh Talewal and Sarwan Singh Bandar, participated.

Speaking to reporters after the talks, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “We had a good discussion with the farmers. The next round of talks will be held in Chandigarh on March 19.”

Meanwhile, the farmers’ protests continue as the talks with the central ministers have not been concluded.

It is noteworthy that the farmers’ Central representatives have previously been pressing for a legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops, a waiver of farmers’ loans, pensions for farmers and agricultural workers, no increase in electricity tariffs, withdrawal of police cases, and justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Khari violence.
