Chaos on Dehradun-Haridwar Highway as Wild Elephant Damages Vehicle

A wild elephant created panic near a toll plaza on the busy Dehradun-Haridwar highway today, damaging vehicles and forcing motorists to flee.

Viral videos on social media show the elephant crossing the highway, using its trunk to smash a vehicle waiting in the toll lane. The driver escaped without injury by speeding away just in time.

Forest officials said elephants are spotted near the toll plaza almost daily, posing a recurring safety hazard. The incident has triggered fear and anger among locals, with calls for urgent preventive measures.

In a similar incident in Odisha’s Sundargarh district recently, a wild elephant was filmed stopping trucks on the Sagargarh–Mandijoda road in Koida Bankhand area, apparently in search of food.

The animal, believed to have strayed from its herd, calmly approached a truck, picked up a bag from the driver’s seat, sniffed it, and searched for something to eat. Truck drivers halted their vehicles and waited until the elephant moved away. Despite the close encounter, it showed no aggression.
