Cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts

A yellow alert has also been issued for several regions, including Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur districts.

A cloudburst was reported in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu on Friday, according to the Central Water Commission, Mohal.

So far, there have been no reports of loss of life. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kullu, confirmed that the situation remains under control and normal at present.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a heavy rainfall alert for several districts in the state. A yellow alert is in effect for Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur districts.

“On August 9, a yellow alert has been issued for Kangra, Una, and Sirmaur districts for heavy rainfall. Rainfall activity is expected to intensify from the night of August 10 and continue until the morning of August 11,” said Sandeep Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist at the IMD Shimla Centre.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), 357 roads have been blocked, 599 power distribution transformers (DTRs) are non-functional, and 177 water supply schemes have been affected due to heavy rainfall.

According to the latest data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), the state has recorded 208 monsoon-related deaths so far. Out of these, 112 fatalities were due to rain-induced incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and house collapses, while the remaining 96 were caused by road accidents, many of which were aggravated by poor visibility and slippery roads during the monsoon.

Mandi district remains the worst affected, reporting the highest number of road blockages (206) and power outages (204). Heavy rainfall has also severely affected water supply systems in the district, with 105 schemes disrupted.
