Delimitation Issue: DMK’s Aim is to Mislead the People of Tamil Nadu – Annamalai
The political atmosphere in Tamil Nadu has heated up over the issue of delimitation. BJP state president Annamalai has accused the DMK government of misleading the people by spreading false narratives regarding this issue.
All-Party Meeting and BJP’s Boycott
To discuss the delimitation process, the Tamil Nadu government has scheduled an all-party meeting on March 5. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has invited all political parties to participate in this discussion.
However, BJP has announced that it will not participate in this meeting. Addressing the press, Annamalai explained the reason for BJP’s decision:
“Union Home Minister Amit Shah has already clarified that no state will be affected by the delimitation process. Despite this clear explanation, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to hold an all-party meeting. This is completely unnecessary and is nothing more than a political stunt by DMK to spread confusion among the people. The DMK government is using this meeting to create fear and false narratives among Tamil Nadu’s citizens.”
Annamalai’s Allegations Against the DMK Government
Further criticizing the DMK government, Annamalai stated:
“The DMK is deliberately misleading the people by spreading misinformation. The delimitation process is purely an administrative measure and does not intend to harm any state. Yet, the DMK government is trying to manipulate public opinion by creating unnecessary panic.
This is nothing but a political drama. The DMK has no genuine concern for the welfare of the people. Instead, it is playing politics to maintain its dominance.”
What is Delimitation?
The delimitation process refers to the redrawing of parliamentary and assembly constituencies based on population data. This process is generally carried out after each Census or when the need for electoral and administrative restructuring arises.
The last delimitation exercise was conducted in 2008, and the next one is expected after the 2026 Census. Based on population shifts, some states may gain seats, while others may lose seats in Parliament.
As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding the delimitation process. Given this, Annamalai has questioned why the DMK government is spreading fear among the people.
Will the BJP-DMK Political Clash Intensify?
Delimitation has always been a contentious issue in Indian politics. Regional parties are often concerned about whether their states will retain or gain sufficient representation in Parliament.
In Tamil Nadu, the DMK government, BJP, and AIADMK have taken different stands on this matter. While the DMK claims that it is fighting for Tamil Nadu’s rights, BJP dismisses this as a false narrative created to mislead the people.
With these strong accusations, the political rivalry between BJP and DMK is expected to escalate further in the coming days.
