H.Raja was arrested in Madurai while the BJP is holding a demonstration across the state to condemn the Tamil Nadu government for not stopping the sale of illict liquor. There was a scuffle between the police and the BJP in Salem.
More than 150 people have been affected by drinking illict liquorr in Karunapuram of Kallakurichi district. They bought packets of illict liquor mixed with methanol and became ill after drinking it. They were admitted to the hospital due to sudden vomiting, fainting and stomach problems.
Subsequently they were admitted to Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital. Since then, many people have been admitted to Salem Government Hospital and Puducherry Jipmar Hospital for further treatment.
Unfortunately, up to 52 people have been killed so far. More than 100 are under medical treatment. They are being treated regularly. However, some are said to be in life-threatening condition. Necessary steps are being taken to save them.
It is in this context that the opposition parties have announced demonstrations regarding Kallakurichi Kallacharaya Pali. Accordingly, a demonstration is being held on behalf of the BJP across Tamil Nadu today. In each district capital, respective district leaders and senior party officials participated in the demonstration. Senior BJP leader H Raja participated in the protest in Madurai. Subsequently, the police arrested BJP officials including H Raja. And in many places there were arguments because permission was not given for the demonstration.
BJP was not given permission to protest near Salem District Collectorate. Even so, the BJP tried to join the protest. The police told them to disperse. But they didn’t listen. After this, the police tried to arrest the BJP members. This led to a scuffle between the BJP and the police. However, the police arrested the BJP workers.
Earlier, in a statement issued by BJP state president Annamalai, “The news that lives have been lost due to illict liquor in Kallakurichi is shocking and painful. We are going to visit Kallakurichi in person and meet the families of the deceased and those who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Tamil Nadu BJP will always support their families.
The death tolls in the last two years of the DMK rule due to billict liquor are raising fears that Tamil Nadu is going back forty years as it did in the 1980s. We were asking Chief Minister Stalin to remove the Minister of Prohibition and Ayathir. But after nearly 60 lives have been lost to illict liquor in the last two years, he must consider whether he has the moral right to continue as chief minister.
“Condemning the inaction of the DMK government, which continues to act in a lax way without stopping the sale of illict liquor in Tamil Nadu, many lives have been lost, I hereby announce that a statewide demonstration will be held on behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP on June 22. Demonstration is going on.
