It is absolutely wrong for diabetics to consume instant oats which can be sold in dyes.

Oats are an excellent food to meet the health needs of diabetics. 100 grams of oats contain almost 10 grams of fiber, 68 grams of carbohydrates, 13 grams of protein and minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. The fiber in it slows digestion and prevents the immediate absorption of glucose into the blood after eating.

The soluble fiber beta-glucan in it has been found in studies to reduce blood sugar levels and the alkaloid avanentramide to prevent inflammation in cells. Also, eating oats will help you feel fuller and less hungry, helping you avoid frequent snacking. It has a low glycemic index.

But, most importantly, the glycemic index of oats increases when they are processed. Most diabetics buy store-bought instant oats ignorantly and think they are healthy. This is completely wrong. There are three types of oats namely Steelcut Oats, Rolled Oats and Instant Oats.

These unprocessed oats are steelcut oats. It has a glycemic index of 53. The glycemic index of lightly processed rolled oats is 57. The third type of instant oats is highly processed and has a high glycemic index of 83, which causes an immediate spike in blood sugar in diabetics.

Therefore, diabetic patients can include steel cut oats and rolled oats liberally in their diet. But since the glycemic index of instant oats is very high, it is better to avoid consuming it. Next time you buy oats at the store, buy steel cut oats or rolled oats. Instant oats should be avoided.

Non-vegetarian foods

Diabetics can include non-vegetarian foods that are high in protein such as chicken, fish and eggs. Since chicken meat is low in harmful saturated fat and fish meat is high in health-promoting substances like omega-3 fatty acids, diabetics can consume this non-vegetarian diet. Goat meat, beef and pork, also known as red meat, are high in fat and should not be consumed frequently by diabetics.

The glycemic index or glycemic index is a number that indicates the relative ability of a carbohydrate food to raise blood glucose levels immediately after eating. Diabetics should avoid foods with high glycemic index. Generally, non-vegetarian foods do not have a glycemic index as they do not contain carbohydrates. However, its glycemic index may increase due to other ingredients added while cooking, processing, and method of eating (frying).

How we eat is more important than what we eat in non-vegetarian foods. Do not fry or fry in oil. It is better to eat non-vegetarian foods boiled as much as possible. Fatty red meat, egg yolk, shrimp, and crab should not be consumed frequently.
