An 8-feet tall statue of Perumal was found today while digging the foundation of a house near Thirumanoor in Ariyalur district.
Saravanan hails from Karaiyankurichi village near Tirumanaur. He is the owner of Car Wash Water Service Shop in Elakurichi. He is digging the foundation for the last 2 days to build a house on 3 cents land with the people. In such a situation, when 4 feet of excavation was done at one place last evening, a crust was seen in it and the people of the area tried to lift it. The attempt was abandoned when darkness fell.
Under the circumstances, the statue was removed from the JCB machine this morning in the presence of the Revenue Department.
After the statue was taken out, it was cleaned. Later it was discovered that it was an 8 feet high Perumal idol made of stone. The gathered masses worshiped the Lord in the form of Govinda Govinda. After this the people of the area cleaned the idol and showed it to Deeparadhan in the evening.
Also, the statue has been completely lifted and placed for public viewing.
The idol was handed over to Ariyalur Kottasiyar Yelumalai, who came to the spot. The statue is said to have been sent to a museum in Trichy and the date of the statue will be known only after research by the Archaeological Survey of India.
