‘Ended Five Wars’: Trump Repeats Claim on India-Pakistan Ceasefire Amid Trade Dispute
US President Donald Trump once again asserted that he played a role in halting global conflicts, including a recent one between India and Pakistan. His fresh statement came amidst rising tensions between Washington and New Delhi after he imposed a 25% tariff on Indian exports.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump targeted radio host and author Charlamagne Tha God, claiming that the host had no knowledge of his actions. “He’s a low IQ person, doesn’t know what he’s saying, and has no clue about what I’ve done – like putting an end to five wars, including a 31-year bloodbath between the Republic of the Congo and Rwanda where seven million lives were lost, and there was no end in sight,” Trump wrote.
“He didn’t know that – or about India and Pakistan, or eliminating Iran’s nuclear capabilities, or sealing the disastrous open border, or building the world’s best economy where prices and inflation have dropped significantly. And now, STUPID and CORRUPT JOE BIDEN has created history by being the worst President of all time,” he added.
Trump’s latest statement came just days after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested that the US President deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for helping end multiple global conflicts, including the one between India and Pakistan.
Just a day earlier, Trump had mentioned in a Newsmax interview that he had successfully helped settle several wars. “If you observe what’s happened recently, we’ve resolved many… many serious wars have come to an end… One of those was India and Pakistan, nuclear,” he said.
“I resolved that. And I did it through trade. I told them, ‘Look, if you want to fight, go ahead. Fight all you want. But we’re not doing a trade agreement.’”
India-US Trade Friction
However, India has consistently denied any foreign involvement in the matter following Operation Sindoor — a military response in which Indian forces targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a recent speech in the Lok Sabha, categorically stated that no third party had influenced India’s decision to halt the operation. He clarified that the request for a ceasefire came from Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) and that India decided to pause the operation only after accomplishing all its intended objectives.
Tensions between India and the United States have risen sharply after Trump imposed a 25% duty on Indian goods. He also threatened to impose unspecified penalties for India’s ongoing energy and defence ties with Russia. Trump went so far as to label India’s economy “dead.”
In a related move, Trump also announced a new trade agreement with Pakistan and stated that the United States would work with Islamabad to develop the country’s “massive oil reserves.” In addition, he imposed a 19% tariff on Pakistani exports.
