Ex-Delhi Cop Among Four Arrested in Punjab Jewellery Heist; Learnt Disguise Tricks from YouTube
Punjab Police have arrested four men, including a dismissed Delhi Police officer, for a daring daylight robbery at a jeweller’s shop in Dhakoli on 11 July.
The police recovered 120 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver, and ₹8 lakh in cash from the accused. Those arrested have been identified as Delhi residents Amit Shukla, Vijay Kamal, Akash Sharma, and Ravinder Tyagi.
Zirakpur SP Jaspinder Singh Gill said that Amit Shukla, the main accused, already faces two previous cases of robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The most shocking detail involves Vijay Kamal — a former Delhi Police officer dismissed after being implicated in a kidnapping case. Kamal has eight criminal cases against him for theft and robbery, and is believed to be the mastermind behind several jewellery heists.
During the Dhakoli robbery, Kamal tried to avoid recognition by wearing a turban — a skill he reportedly perfected by watching YouTube tutorials. According to police, Kamal’s gang carried out thorough recce of jewellers before striking, ensuring their operations were planned with precision.
