‘Extra Weapons’: Arne Slot Looking To Strengthen Liverpool Squad Further Ahead Of New Season
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, who guided the club to their 20th Premier League title—matching the all-time record—in his very first season, believes there is still room for further improvement in the squad.
The Reds have already spent over £250 million in the current summer transfer window, securing the services of players like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Giorgi Mamardashvili. The club is also reportedly in pursuit of Newcastle United’s prolific forward Alexander Isak.
However, Liverpool also saw the departure of some big names, with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid and Luis Diaz joining Bayern Munich.
“We’ve added, in my view, a few extra weapons,” said Slot, speaking about the new additions.
He praised Florian Wirtz, highlighting the creative spark he brings in the final third of the pitch. “We lost a lot of creativity from the back with Trent’s exit. His ability to deliver pinpoint crosses and pick out runners was unique. But Florian brings similar creative quality, albeit from a different position,” the Dutchman noted.
Tribute to Diogo Jota
Slot also spoke emotionally about the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, who passed away last month in a car crash in Spain, along with his brother.
“It’s been an incredibly difficult period for everyone at the club, but especially for Diogo’s wife, children, and family,” he said. “We can’t begin to understand the pain they are feeling, and the club will keep offering every bit of support they need.”
“We will carry Diogo with us, in our hearts and in our thoughts, wherever we go,” he added solemnly.
