According to a report released by the Central Board of Direct and Customs Taxes, Goods and Services Tax (GST) is levied on companies that distribute food to schools under the Lunch Scheme after receiving donations from government grants and companies. The distribution companies had appealed. The GST was discussed at a council meeting last month.
In addition, various services, including fees charged by the Central and State Board of Education for examinations and entrance examinations for educational institutions, are exempt from GST. Thus it is said.
