Ferrari Boss Fred Vasseur Gets Multi-Year Contract Extension

The Italian carmaker aims to build upon the foundation laid by the Frenchman since his joining in 2023 from Sauber during a challenging phase for the Prancing Horse.

Formula One team Scuderia Ferrari on Thursday confirmed a multi-year contract extension for Team Principal Fred Vasseur.

The Italian manufacturer intends to build on the groundwork laid by the Frenchman since his arrival in 2023 from Sauber, during a difficult period for the team.

“I’m thankful for the trust Ferrari continues to show in me. This extension is not just an endorsement – it’s a challenge to keep improving, stay focused, and deliver,” Vasseur said after the announcement.

“In the past 30 months, we have laid a solid foundation and now we must build on it with consistency and determination. We know what is expected of us, and we are fully committed to achieving that and taking the next step together,” the 57-year-old added.

“His capability to lead under pressure, embrace innovation, and pursue high performance completely aligns with Ferrari’s values and long-term vision,” Ferrari said in a statement.

“Under Fred’s leadership, Ferrari is united, focused, and committed to continuous progress. The confidence placed in him reflects the team’s belief in its strategic direction and highlights a shared determination to deliver the results that Ferrari’s fans, drivers, and team members expect and deserve,” the team added.

“Today, we acknowledge what has already been accomplished and commit ourselves to the goals yet to be achieved. It is a reflection of our trust in Fred’s leadership – trust built on shared ambitions, mutual expectations, and clear accountability,” Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said.

“We are moving ahead with determination and focus, united in our efforts to reach the level of performance Ferrari must strive for,” he further stated.

Just ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, Ferrari announced the new contract, ending recent speculation around Vasseur’s future. In June, Italian media reports had suggested that he was in danger of losing his post—claims that had deeply upset the 57-year-old. At the time, he rejected the rumours, calling them disrespectful and harmful to the team.

Under his leadership, Ferrari narrowly missed out on the 2023 Constructors’ Championship, finishing just 14 points behind McLaren, who claimed the title. Although the gap has widened this season—with Ferrari trailing McLaren by 268 points going into the summer break—the team still holds second place in the standings, ahead of Mercedes and Red Bull.

Ferrari has secured two podium finishes in the last three races, both by Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton, in his first season with the team, is steadily gaining confidence.
