“Fk you CBS…” — Jimmy Kimmel Voices Support for Stephen Colbert After ‘The Late Show’ Cancellation**
CBS has called it a “strictly financial choice,” claiming it’s unrelated to “other ongoing developments at Paramount.”
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is on its way out. In a sudden move announced on July 17, CBS disclosed its decision to discontinue the well-known show hosted by Stephen Colbert. The revelation caught many by surprise — including fellow host Jimmy Kimmel, who openly expressed solidarity with Colbert after the unexpected news.
Posting on his Instagram Story, Kimmel shared a blunt message of support for his colleague and friend. “Love you Stephen. And F**k you CBS and all your Sheldons,” the message read — a thinly veiled jab at CBS, also the home of The Big Bang Theory, whose main character was Sheldon Cooper.
Although Kimmel and Colbert compete in the same late-night space with comparable formats, the two maintain a respectful and friendly relationship.
Why is The Late Show with Stephen Colbert getting cancelled?
According to CBS, the show will wrap up with its final broadcast in May 2026. The network insists the decision is “entirely financial” and unrelated to “any other situations involving Paramount.” However, the fanbase isn’t buying that explanation.
Many viewers speculate that the cancellation may be part of a wider agenda to silence outspoken voices — particularly those that often take aim at Donald Trump or deliver progressive commentary. Some see it as a quiet warning shot aimed at late-night hosts who challenge conservative narratives.
Colbert himself confirmed the development during Thursday’s episode, stating that this would be The Late Show‘s final season. He clarified that he is not being replaced — CBS is discontinuing the program entirely.
The show was first fronted by David Letterman, who later left in 1993 to host The Late Show with David Letterman on NBC. Stephen Colbert took over the CBS version in 2015.
Back in 2023, CBS also cancelled The Late Late Show with James Corden, citing that the timeslot was no longer financially sustainable.
This move could signify the close of CBS’s long chapter in the late-night television space. As for Jimmy Kimmel, whose current deal expires next year, it’s still unclear whether Disney will extend his contract for Jimmy Kimmel Live.
