German Legend Thomas Muller Likely To Join MLS Club Vancouver Whitecaps

The 35-year-old forward is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Vancouver-based side following his highly successful spell with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

German World Cup winner Thomas Muller is poised to make a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Vancouver Whitecaps after parting ways with his boyhood club Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old forward is set to sign a two-year contract with the Vancouver-based side after his title-laden tenure with Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.

The German icon, who joined the FC Bayern youth setup at the age of 10 in 2000, holds the record for the most appearances in club history with 750 matches. He guided the team to a historic 13 Bundesliga titles, clinching his final league trophy this past season. However, Bayern had announced in April that his high-paying contract would not be extended for another season.

The World Cup winner made his last appearance for his beloved Bayern Munich during the Bundesliga champions’ 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Club World Cup, drawing the curtain on an illustrious career with the Bavarian club.

Muller’s exit from Bayern Munich, where he spent 25 years, marks a turning point as he enters the final chapter of his remarkable career.

Vancouver are currently holding talks with FC Cincinnati over the Discovery Rights for Muller, which are required under MLS rules when signing overseas players.

These Discovery Rights enable a club to claim exclusive negotiation privileges with a footballer who is not currently signed to Major League Soccer or any other team.

Muller, who shares the title of Germany’s most decorated footballer with Toni Kroos—having won 34 trophies—will aim to add to his already impressive collection before calling time on his career.

Vancouver have emerged as one of the strongest MLS teams this season and are presently ranked second in the Western Conference table. They also reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup earlier this year.

Muller’s addition could significantly boost Vancouver’s hopes of securing both the Western Conference title and the MLS Cup. According to reports, he sought guidance from former German teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who concluded his own glittering career at Chicago Fire.
