As the world is condemning Israel’s attack on Palestine, a student who won a gold medal at the IIT Chennai graduation ceremony has raised his voice against Israel’s attack on Palestine. A video of what this man said while giving a special speech is spreading rapidly on social media.
The 61st convocation ceremony of IIT Chennai was held today in the hall on the IIT campus. Biochemical scientist Brian K. Kopilka, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2012, attended the graduation ceremony as a special guest and awarded the degrees.
A total of 3,016 degrees, one or more, were awarded to 2,236 students at today’s convocation ceremony. 444 received Ph.D. It was at this graduation ceremony that the gold medalist student Dhanajay Balakrishnan spoke about Israel.
“Genocide is happening in Palestine. Big corporates are directly and indirectly aiding countries that can wage war.
It’s time for action. Mass genocide is happening in Palestine. People are dying in large numbers. There is no obvious conclusion to this. Why should we care about this?
As engineering students, we work hard to get high level jobs in big tech companies. We do this for good salary and other benefits. Most of these tech companies are directly and indirectly involved in the Palestinian conflict. They provide technology to kill Palestinians.
I don’t know how to prevent this. But I know only one thing. As engineering graduates, we know the consequences of what we do. Those of us who go to big companies from STEM backgrounds need to explore what we can do for people oppressed by caste, class, creed, gender. I hope this will make a difference,” he said.
Background: The Gaza Strip of Palestine has been under the control of the Israeli army since 2007. Against these restrictions, the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Hamas, launched a missile attack on Israel on October 7 last year. 1500 Israelis were killed. This is the starting point for the current war Israel is waging. Israel began the war with the slogan that its primary objective was to destroy Hamas.
More than 37,000 Gazans have been killed in the war so far. This is 1.7 percent of the total population of Gazans. Similarly 3.7% of the population i.e. 86,000 people were seriously injured in the war. 23 lakh people have been displaced due to war. Hunger, starvation and infectious diseases continue to haunt them. The Gaza Strip has been almost leveled.

269 days after the start of the war, has Israel fulfilled the purpose of this war? The question has arisen. Israel’s spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari has given the answer to this. “Hamas is an ideology, Hamas is a party, it is rooted in people’s hearts. It is wrong to think that Hamas can be eradicated,” he said.
Israel has admitted this 8 months after the start of the war. Israel had planned to destroy Hamas’ tunnels, its top fighters and leader and free the more than 240 hostages they were holding. But even after 8 months, Israel is unable to achieve this goal.
