Governor R. N. Ravi Urges Inclusion of Kambar and Kamba Ramayanam in School Curriculum
A grand event titled “Kamba Chithiram Vizha”, celebrating the legendary Tamil poet Kambar and Lord Rama, was held at the Raj Bhavan in Guindy, Chennai. The event was presided over by Governor R. N. Ravi, and attended by notable personalities including Sudha Seshayyan and Marabin Maindhan Muthiah.
During his address, Governor R. N. Ravi emphasized the timeless relevance of the Ramayana, saying,
“Anyone who listens to the Ramayana will have it etched in their hearts.”
He explained that Lord Vishnu, incarnated as Sri Rama, led a life of simplicity and righteousness. It is this noble character and unwavering adherence to dharma that earned him the title “Maryada Purushottama” – the ideal man of honor and virtue.
The Governor further pointed out that the Tamil version of the Ramayana, written by the great poet Kambar, is a literary treasure that carries deep spiritual and ethical messages. He stressed that Kambar’s contribution through the Kamba Ramayanam is not only a cultural asset but also an educational tool that can instill values in young minds.
Hence, he strongly urged that Kambar and his Kamba Ramayanam be included in the school syllabus, so that students can learn about moral discipline, virtue, and cultural heritage through this great epic.
