Govt Expected to Prolong Electronics Manufacturing Scheme Deadline Past July Amid Robust Interest
The central government is expected to push the application deadline for the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) beyond July.
“We’ve received strong interest in the scheme so far and are considering a short extension of the deadline,” government sources told Moneycontrol on Thursday, noting that authorities are carefully reviewing the ongoing applications.
The ECMS, a ₹23,000-crore initiative launched on May 1, is intended to address the gap between demand and supply in the electronic component sector. Within just the first 20 days, the scheme received 70 applications, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in May.
Leading industry companies such as Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn are said to have expressed interest in applying, sources informed Moneycontrol.
As per an official announcement dated March 28, the scheme’s objective is to draw significant domestic and international investment, boost value addition within India, and bring Indian companies into global value chains (GVCs).
The ECMS aims to attract investments amounting to ₹59,350 crore, generate production valued at ₹4,56,500 crore, and is projected to create 91,600 direct employment opportunities, along with many more indirect jobs, during its implementation period.
