Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, was granted bail by the Delhi Rose Avenue Court. Here’s a look at Arvind Kejriwal’s journey from his arrest to his bail.

Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the enforcement department in the liquor policy violation case, has been granted bail by Delhi’s Rose Avenue court. Kejriwal, who was arrested on March 21, got bail.

Kejriwal will be released tomorrow after receiving the court order from the jail administration. After exactly 3 months, Kejriwal is out on bail. Here’s a look at the journey of Kejriwal’s case from his arrest to his bail.

The Kejriwal government introduced a new excise policy in November 2021 in Delhi. There were allegations of various irregularities in the introduction of the excise policy. Subsequently, Delhi Lt Governor Sandeep Saxena ordered a CBI investigation in July 2022.

  • In August 2022, CBI and Enforcement Directorate filed a case regarding Delhi liquor policy.

  • Oct. 30. 2023- Enforcement department summons Kejriwal.
  • The Enforcement Directorate summoned Kejriwal to appear on November 2.
  • As Kejriwal did not appear, the Enforcement Department issued two more summons. It issued summons to appear on December 21 and January 3.
  • January 2024: Two more summons issued to Kejriwal. It issued successive summonses to appear on January 18 and February 2. After Kejriwal’s non-appearance, the Enforcement Directorate filed a complaint in the Magistrate’s Court.
  • March 7; The Magistrate Court directed Kejriwal to appear before the court as he ignored the summons.
  • March 15; Sessions Court refuses to stay hearing of case against Kejriwal for ignoring summons.
  • March 16: Magistrate Court grants bail to Kejriwal in default case after appearing in Sessions Court.
  • March: 21 Delhi High Court refuses to stay Kejriwal’s arrest. After this, Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.

*March 23: Kejriwal filed a case in the Delhi High Court claiming that his arrest by the enforcement department was illegal. The Delhi High Court heard this plea and dismissed Kejriwal’s plea.

  • April: 10: Kejriwal appeals in Supreme Court. Hearing the petition, the Supreme Court said it would consider granting interim bail because of elections. The enforcement department strongly opposed this. The Enforcement Directorate said campaigning is not a fundamental right. The Supreme Court rejected the arguments of the enforcement department and granted bail.
  • May 10: Kejriwal released after Supreme Court grants interim bail. The Supreme Court ordered the surrender on June 2. Kejriwal’s request for more time to surrender was rejected.
  • June 02: Subsequently Kejriwal was jailed. Meanwhile, Kejriwal filed a bail petition in the court.
  • June 20: The Rose Avenue court heard the petition and granted bail to Kejriwal today.
