Here’s How Much Munmun Dutta Earned as Her First Paycheck at the Age of 7
Munmun Dutta recently spoke about her very first paycheck and how it influenced her approach to money even today.
It has been over fifteen years since actress Munmun Dutta started charming audiences as Babita Iyer in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Though she is now one of the most recognised faces on television, Munmun had a modest beginning. In a recent interview, she revealed the details of her first-ever earning and how it shaped her financial habits.
Munmun shared that she earned her first money at the age of seven by singing for Air India Radio. “I got my first paycheck when I was just seven years old — Rs 125 for singing on Air India Radio,” she recalled while talking to ETimes. Instead of spending it, she handed over the entire amount to her mother, who kept it safely.
As her career progressed, Munmun explained that she remained very prudent with her finances. “I have always been very careful with money. Coming from a lower middle-class family, splurging just because I had some earnings was never part of my mindset, and honestly, it still isn’t,” she said.
Rather than spending lavishly, Munmun focused on saving and investing wisely. During her initial days, she ensured she had enough savings to cover a few months’ rent, allowing her to attend auditions without the “pressure of immediate survival.” “That was my way of splurging — securing peace of mind,” she added.
In the same conversation, Munmun revealed that one of her biggest dreams was to buy her own house in Mumbai and that her ultimate aim was financial stability. She shared that even after she started earning regularly, she chose to continue staying in the same PG instead of rushing into a costly lifestyle. It was only when she could comfortably afford it that she moved into a small apartment of her own.
“I love money, I respect money, and I truly believe it is one of the most important things in life. I have always treated it with care and responsibility, and that outlook still guides my decisions to this day,” Munmun said
