Heung-Min Son Helps LAFC Earn Draw Against Chicago Fire on MLS Debut

South Korean football star Heung-Min Son made an immediate impact in his MLS debut, helping Los Angeles FC secure a 2-2 draw against Chicago Fire on Sunday.

Coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute, Son won a late penalty that Denis Bouanga converted to ensure LAFC left Chicago with a point. Earlier, Carlos Teran had given the hosts an early lead, cancelled out by Ryan Hollingshead. Jonathan Bamba restored Chicago’s advantage in the 70th minute before Bouanga’s equaliser.

Son, who joined LAFC last week for a reported MLS ecord $26 million after 10 years at Tottenham Hotspur, expressed mixed emotions after the match. “A bit disappointed not getting three points, but happy with my debut. I hope the goals come soon,” said the 33-year-old forward.

The South Korea captain will play his first home match for LAFC on 31 August against Western Conference leaders San Diego.
