While more than 132 people who drank “adulterated liquor” in Kallakurichi are in intensive care, 49 people have died so far. and it is feared that the death toll will rise as some more are in critical condition.
Condemnation: While the “adulterated liquor” has exploded, the Left parties in the DMK alliance, including the Congress, have condemned it. Similarly, opposition parties are also registering their objections.
Condemnations have arisen from various quarters for this incident which has caused shockwaves across Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai personally visited Karunapuram in Kallakurichi district and paid tributes to those who died after consuming counterfeit liquor. He then consoled the families of the victims. He has also announced that a compensation of one lakh rupees will be given to the families of the deceased on behalf of the BJP.

“There is an abundance of cheap drugs in Tamil Nadu. The youths are addicted to drugs and are losing their golden future. Last year, the government gave 10 lakh rupees to those who died after drinking “adulterated liquor”.
