Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Ibrahim Raisi on being elected as the new President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Iran’s presidential election was held from 7 am to midnight on Friday after the term of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani ended.
However, the turnout was low due to people’s reluctance to vote in the presidential election.
The presidential election was contested by four people, including former Iranian Supreme Court judge Ibrahim Reisi and former Reserve Bank chairman Abdul Nasser Hemati. Ibrahim Raisi won.
“Congratulations to Ibrahim Reyes on his victory as the new President of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he tweeted.
I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the ties between India and Iran.
