Tamil Nadu BJP leader L Murugan has said that the DMK has not made any effort to curb rising prices. The details of his statement are as follows:
People are losing their livelihoods due to the great corona epidemic and are suffering with no way to earn an income. The rise in prices at this time, has placed a further greater burden on them. Especially after the DMK came to power, the prices of various commodities have skyrocketed. The prices of construction materials have been raised without any restrictions on the takeaway. The price of a bundle of cement before the DMK came to power was 370 rupees. It has now risen to more than 520 rupees. In our neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, a bundle of cement costs between Rs 370 and Rs 390. Even in the capital Delhi, a bundle of cement sells for only 350 rupees. But in Tamil Nadu the price of a bundle of cement has been drastically raised to 520 rupees. Has caused the greatest shock. Following the price of cement, the prices of all construction materials in Tamil Nadu have risen sharply.
The price of a unit of M sand, which was 5,000 rupees, has now gone up to more than 6,000 rupees. A unit of jalli (three-quarters of an inch) was Rs 3,600. It has now gone over Rs 4,200. The price of wire used to construct buildings was Rs 18,000 per tonne before the DMK regime. It has now risen to more than 75,000 rupees. A load of bricks was 18,000 rupees. It has now crossed 24 thousand rupees. That means the price of a load of bricks in 2012 was 9,500 rupees. Over the last 9 years it has gradually risen to Rs 18,000. But in the last one month, a load of bricks has gone up by more than Rs 6,000.
During the last DMK regime, the price of cement, which was Rs. 180 per bag, gradually rose to Rs. 280 in 2008. As a result, all construction projects were halted. Following this, the then Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi announced that “all cement factories will be considered for nationalization”. Cement manufacturers then lowered prices. During the last AIADMK regime, cement manufacturers raised prices from time to time. But the price came of control as the government tightened its grip.
Once again, the DMK regime has drastically raised the price of cement. But it is not clear why the then Chief Minister Mr. Karunanidhi did not take the action taken by his son, the present DMK Chief Minister Mr. Stalin. Also during the AIADMK regime the Amma Cement project was introduced. Thus a bundle of cement was sold for 226 rupees. This was well received by the people. But now Mom doesn’t know what became of the cement project. Not only has the price of construction materials, including cement, gone up, but so has the price of cooking oil, cooking utensils and vegetables used by mothers on a daily basis. With this sudden rise in prices, people from all walks of life are on the alert.
It is reprehensible that during this Corono epidemic, the prices of various commodities have suddenly skyrocketed. Not suitable. Therefore, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Stalin, should immediately pay special attention to this and take steps to bring the prices of all construction materials from the price of cement under control immediately. I urge you to take immediate action to bring the prices of vegetables, cooking oil and other commodities under control on a wartime basis. “
