India Welcomes Upcoming US–Russia Talks in Alaska, Urges End to Ukraine Conflict

India on Saturday welcomed the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, set to be held in Alaska on 15 August, where the two leaders are expected to deliberate on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the summit “holds the promise of ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and opening up new prospects for peace.”

Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s observation that “this is not an era of war,” India expressed strong support for the diplomatic initiative and affirmed its willingness to contribute to peace-building efforts.

“India endorses the upcoming Summit meeting and stands ready to support these efforts,” the MEA added.
