The Indian Coast Guard rescued 11 people during the night rescue operation.

A cargo ship was reported to have sunk about 90 nautical miles south of Sagar Island (West Bengal) while en route from Kolkata to Port Blair.

This information was received by the Chennai Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre. ICG’s Regional Headquarters (North East) in Kolkata immediately dispatched two ICG ships and a Tornier aircraft to the spot.

Guided by Tornier aircraft, the ICG vessel reached the scene. Later, 11 people who were adrift in the sea were rescued.
