Indian Ports in World Port Ranking List

Indian ports have placed in the top 20 ranks in the world’s port ranking list and have set a record. Check out a news package on this.

The S&P Global Market Intelligence along with the World Bank publishes an annual Container Port Performance Index for every port in the world.

This series of grades is prepared taking into account the significant improvements in the operational efficiency of the ports.

And the efficiency of the respective ports is calculated based on the time the ships are in each port. Then the global port ranking is published.

Nine Indian ports feature among the top 100 global ports in the 2023 Container Port Performance Index. This is the first time that 9 Indian ports have featured in the top 20 global rankings.

Center-owned Visakhapatnam Port, which was ranked 115th in the 2022 ranking, has now moved up to 19th position and entered the top 20.

Adani’s Mundra Port, which was ranked 48th in 2022, has also grown to rank 27th in the world port rankings.

In the world ports ranking, among the top 100 are Bipavao Port in Gujarat at 41st, Kamaraj Sector Port at Ennuar in Tamil Nadu at 47th, Cochin Port in Kerala at 63rd, Surat Hazira Port in Gujarat at 68th and Nellore Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh at 71st. Port, Chennai Port in Tamil Nadu at 80th position and Mumbai JNPA Port in Maharashtra at 96th position.

China’s Yangshan Port and Oman’s Salalah Port are the top two in the ranking.

Economists attribute this achievement to the proper policies and planning activities of the Central Government led by Prime Minister Modi in the last 10 years.
