IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad Crush Punjab Kings by 8 Wickets in a High-Scoring Thriller

In tonight’s IPL encounter, Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a stunning victory against Punjab Kings by 8 wickets, chasing down a massive total with ease and registering their second win of the tournament.

Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya got off to a flying start. Prabhsimran hit hat-trick boundaries in the very first over by Mohammad Shami, while Priyansh played aggressively at the other end. Punjab raced to 50 runs within just 3 overs.

Priyansh Arya was dismissed after scoring a quick 36 off 13 balls. Captain Shreyas Iyer joined the party and took charge, raising the run rate significantly. Punjab reached 100 in just 8.1 overs. Prabhsimran departed for 42 runs, but Iyer continued to dominate, supported by Nehal Wadhera who played steadily.

Shreyas Iyer blasted a half-century in just 22 balls and went on to score 82 off 36 balls before getting out. Despite some middle-order hiccups with Shashank Singh (2), Glenn Maxwell (3), and Wadhera (27) getting out cheaply, Marcus Stoinis finished strong. In the final over bowled by Shami, Stoinis smashed four sixes, including a hat-trick of sixes, ending with 34 runs.

Punjab posted a daunting total of 245/6 in 20 overs. Harshal Patel was the standout bowler for Hyderabad, picking up 4 crucial wickets.

Chasing a mammoth target of 246, Sunrisers Hyderabad started with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head as openers. The duo started explosively, matching the required run rate from the start. Travis Head scored a rapid 66 before getting caught, but Abhishek Sharma continued the assault.

Joined by Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma stunned everyone with his brutal hitting. He completed his century in just 40 balls and continued to punish the Punjab bowlers. Before getting out for a jaw-dropping 141 off 55 balls (which included 10 sixes and 14 fours), he had taken his team to the brink of victory.

With just 24 runs needed when Abhishek got out, Klaasen (21*) and Ishan Kishan (9*) ensured no further damage was done. Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target in 18.3 overs, scoring 247/2, and sealed the win.

For Punjab, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each, but their bowling was dismantled by Hyderabad’s fiery batting line-up.

With this win, Sunrisers now have 4 points in the tournament and are building strong momentum. Abhishek Sharma’s remarkable knock was undoubtedly the highlight of the night, and the team’s powerful chase is being hailed as one of the finest in IPL history.
