Jammu & Kashmir Kishtwar Cloudburst: 20 Feared Dead in Chishoti; PM Modi Promises Full Support

At least twelve people are feared dead after a cloudburst hit the Paddar Tashoti region of Kishtwar district, causing flash floods that swept away a langar (community kitchen) shed. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families affected.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and officials caution that the death toll could rise as efforts continue. Official confirmation of casualties is still awaited.

The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a Nowcast alert, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by brief intense showers, thunder, lightning, and strong winds across several parts of Jammu & Kashmir over the next 4–6 hours.

Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has directed the Army and NDRF teams to intensify rescue efforts. “Anguished by the cloudburst in Chishoti, Kishtwar. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. I have instructed Civil, Police, Army, NDRF, and SDRF officials to reinforce rescue and relief operations and provide all possible assistance to those affected,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also assured that all necessary help and support would be extended to the victims and the rescue teams working in the area.
