Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3rd Phase Begins in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

The ‘Kashi Tamil Sangamam’ event, which strengthens the historical and cultural connection between Tamil Nadu and Kashi (Varanasi), began in 2022. The third edition of this grand event is set to take place from February 15, 2025, to February 24, 2025, in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Grand Inauguration

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2025 will be inaugurated today, February 15, at 3 PM, in Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan will jointly inaugurate the festival.

Theme of This Year: Agastya, Tamil Medicine, and Heritage

This year’s Kashi Tamil Sangamam focuses on Siddha medicine, traditional Tamil literature, and cultural harmony. The event will highlight the immense contributions of Sage Agastya, who played a significant role in medicine, Tamil language development, and cultural unity.

Key discussions include:

???? The linguistic and cultural connection between Tamil Nadu and Kashi

Various seminars, workshops, and exhibitions will be conducted to explore Agastya’s influence on different fields such as health, philosophy, linguistics, literature, politics, arts, and culture.

Participation from Tamil Nadu

Around 1,200 people from Tamil Nadu, including scientists, teachers, students, farmers, entrepreneurs, and artisans, are participating in this festival.

The first group of 220 members left for Varanasi on February 13, 2025. A special train carrying the delegates was flagged off from Chennai Central Railway Station by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi.

Special Association with Maha Kumbh Mela 2025

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2025 coincides with the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

Participants will get a chance to take the sacred Shahi Snan (royal bath) in the Ganges and also visit the newly inaugurated Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Historical Background of Kashi Tamil Sangamam

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam was first initiated in 2022 by the Indian government to revive the deep historical, cultural, and spiritual connections between Tamil Nadu and Varanasi.

For centuries, many Tamil scholars, saints, and poets resided in Kashi, contributing to education and cultural exchange. This festival aims to rekindle and celebrate these ancient ties.

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 2025 serves as a bridge between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, strengthening their cultural, spiritual, and linguistic bonds.
