It was reported that when the authorities checked the KFC chicken company’s restaurants in Thoothukudi, they found that they used spoiled old oils. As a result, the food safety license of the hotel has been temporarily cancelled, KFC has given an explanation in this regard.
Rasain was found to be mixed in the style served with Panipuri in Karnataka. Subsequently, officials are conducting raids in Panipuri shops in Tamil Nadu as well. The Food Safety Department officials have carried out these inspections after complaints of “green color” artificial pigments being mixed in pani puris.
Inspection by officials: In this regard, food safety officials also conducted inspection in Tuticorin district today. In Thoothukudi, some hotels and roadside shops received a complaint to the Food Safety Department officials that apart from Panipuri, old spoiled food was being used.
Chemicals used: In this regard, it was reported that the authorities found the use of spoiled old oils when they checked the restaurants of the famous KFC chicken company located in the Velavan Hypermarket building in Thoothukudi. Officials also discovered that a chemical called magnesium silicate synthetic was used to treat this old oil.
Subsequently, the authorities seized 18 kg of magnesium silicate synthetic, and 45 liters of old cooking oil purified using it. Similarly, the police also confiscated 56 kg of chicken which was kept in the fridge without being used for more than 12 hours.
The customers were shocked: The officials who investigated the matter ordered the temporary cancellation of the food safety license of the concerned restaurant and warned that the restaurant will not be allowed to open until further orders. The news that substandard chickens were found at popular company KFC has shocked its customers.
KFC Company Explanation: In this case, KFC Company has given an explanation. It states:- KFC is committed to following best practices and international standards in food preparation. High quality oil and chickens are procured from leading suppliers of the country. These are procured following the safety and quality standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
SAFE TO EAT: We would like to clarify the information recently published in the media. Magnesium Silicate is approved by FSSAI as a cleaning agent. So all the chicken served at KFC is safe to eat as per the rules.
We are currently working with the relevant authorities to find a speedy and effective resolution to this matter. “We assure consumers that KFC products sold across the country are of high quality and safe to eat,” it said.
