Kylian Mbappe Takes Real Madrid’s Iconic No. 10 Jersey From Luka Modric

Real Madrid has officially handed over the prestigious number 10 jersey to Kylian Mbappe, marking a new chapter for the club ahead of the upcoming season.

On Tuesday, the Spanish giants confirmed via a post on X that Mbappe will now don the iconic number 10 shirt, succeeding club veteran Luka Modric.

Who Has Previously Worn The Number 10 Shirt For Real Madrid?

This coveted jersey has been worn by legendary players such as Mesut Ozil, Luis Figo, Clarence Seedorf, Ferenc Puskas, and others, all of whom carried its weight with distinction. Luka Modric wore the number last and made his final appearance for Real Madrid after the Club World Cup concluded.

Mbappe, despite his prolific scoring record, has come under scrutiny for not delivering major team honours as a lead attacker. After his transfer from PSG to Madrid, his former club went on to clinch their maiden UEFA Champions League title and also reached the final of the Club World Cup—even without his presence. In contrast, Mbappe netted 31 goals to become La Liga’s top scorer but could not help Real Madrid avoid a trophyless season. Their 2024/25 campaign ended on a disappointing note with a 4-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final of the Club World Cup.

Shifting focus to international duties, Mbappe recently scored his 50th goal for France in their 2-0 win over Germany in Stuttgart. Though Germany created several chances, the most notable being a strike by rising star Florian Wirtz that hit the post, it was France who struck first. Mbappe scored just before the interval to hand France the lead.

That goal brought Mbappe within touching distance of Thierry Henry on France’s all-time scorers list—he is now just one goal shy of the former Arsenal striker. In the dying minutes of the game, Mbappe also assisted Michael Olise, who came off the bench to seal the victory for France.
