Leopard Jumps At Safari Jeep, Injures Teen At Bengaluru’s Bannerghatta Park

In a frightening incident, a 13-year-old boy narrowly escaped a leopard attack during a safari ride at Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru on Friday.

The victim, identified as Suhas, a resident of Bommasandra, was on a holiday trip with his parents when the incident occurred. According to the park’s Executive Director Surya Sen, a leopard suddenly followed the safari jeep and leapt at the window, scratching the boy’s hand.

A video of the incident, now viral on social media, shows the wild cat chasing the vehicle and swiping its claws through the grills around the window. The attack left Suhas with deep gashes on his hand.

Park staff immediately provided first aid before shifting the boy to a private hospital. He received treatment and was later discharged, officials confirmed.

Authorities at the park have initiated an inquiry into the incident, promising to strengthen safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in future.

The safari at Bannerghatta Biological Park is among Bengaluru’s top tourist attractions. However, the region has recently witnessed rising man-animal conflict, with leopards and elephants frequently straying into nearby residential areas.

Environmentalists have raised alarm over urban sprawl and infrastructure projects near Bannerghatta National Park, warning that such developments threaten wildlife corridors and could increase human-wildlife encounters.
