Macau Open: Alwi Farhan Dominates Lakshya Sen In Semifinal Battle

India’s star shuttler Lakshya Sen bowed out of the Macau Open Super 300 Badminton tournament after suffering a loss to Alwi Farhan in the men’s singles semifinal on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Sen went down 21-16, 21-9 in straight games in his last-four clash against the Indonesian player.

Farhan began the match on a strong note, quickly taking the lead in the opening game and never losing control, sealing the first set 21-16 with ease.

Riding on the momentum from the first game, Farhan wrapped up the match by securing a commanding 21-9 win in the second game, ensuring his place in the final.

Sen had kicked off his Macau campaign with a victory over South Korea’s Jeon Jun-Bum in the Round of 32, followed by a hard-fought win over Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in the Round of 16.

In the quarterfinal held on Friday, Sen overcame China’s Xuan Chen Zhu with a 21-14, 18-21, 21-14 win to book his place in the semifinal. However, he failed to maintain that form against Farhan, exiting the tournament in a one-sided contest, marking the end of India’s singles challenge at the event.

Earlier in the day, Tharun Mannepalli, who was playing in his first-ever Super 300 semifinal, also suffered a defeat. He lost to Malaysia’s Justin Hoh in the other semifinal, despite taking an early lead. Tharun eventually went down 21-19, 16-21, 16-21 in another disappointing end for the Indian contingent.
