Madurai Policeman Murder Case: Accused Shot and Arrested by Police While Attempting to Escape
The Madurai police have shot and apprehended a key suspect in the murder of policeman Malaiyarasan after he attempted to escape during an on-site investigation. The accused, identified as auto driver Moovendhar, was injured and has been admitted to the Madurai Government Hospital.
Background of the Murder
On March 19, the half-burnt body of policeman Malaiyarasan, a native of Virudhunagar, was discovered in the Eechaneri area along the national highway leading to Madurai Airport. Following this shocking discovery, the district police formed special teams to investigate the murder and track down the culprits.
During the investigation, police identified Moovendhar, an auto driver from Avaniapuram, as a prime suspect. He was arrested and interrogated regarding the crime.
Confession of the Accused
During questioning, Moovendhar revealed that he and Malaiyarasan were acquaintances and often consumed alcohol together. He further admitted that he became aware of a significant amount of money in Malaiyarasan’s bank account. In an attempt to steal the money, he, along with his accomplices, murdered the policeman and burned his body to destroy evidence.
Police Encounter During Investigation
Following this confession, police took Moovendhar to the crime scene for further investigation. However, during the visit, he attempted to escape. In response, the police opened fire and managed to subdue him.
Moovendhar sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was immediately taken to the Madurai Government Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the police are continuing their search for his accomplices, who are currently absconding.
