‘Might Have to Start Liking Her Again’: Trump Reacts to Hillary Clinton’s Nobel Peace Prize Nod

Hillary Clinton’s remarks came as Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their first in-person talks in years at a Cold War-era airbase in Alaska.

US President Donald Trump, who seems keen on a Nobel Peace Prize for claims of stopping several conflicts worldwide since taking office in January, joked that he might “have to start liking” Hillary Clinton after his former rival said she would consider nominating him for the prize under a condition.

Clinton, who lost the 2016 presidential election to Trump, told the Raging Moderates podcast that she would put his name forward for the prize if he managed to secure peace between Russia and Ukraine without forcing Kyiv to give up its land to Moscow.

Speaking aboard Air Force One in an interview with journalist Bret Baier, Trump was asked about Clinton’s comments. “Well, that was very nice,” he replied. “I may have to start liking her again.”

Clinton’s Statement

“Honestly, if he could bring an end to this terrible war, and do so without putting Ukraine in a position where it has to concede its territory to the aggressor, and could really stand up to Putin—something we haven’t seen before—then maybe, if Trump were the architect of that, I’d nominate him for a Nobel Peace Prize,” Clinton said.

“Because my goal here is to prevent capitulation to Putin,” she added.

Her unexpected remarks came as Trump and Putin held their first in-person talks in years at a Cold War-era airbase in Alaska. The summit, aimed at halting the three-year conflict in Ukraine, was closely watched for any breakthrough. However, there were no such signs after it concluded.

Before flying to the summit, Trump told reporters he wanted a ceasefire “today” and warned he “won’t be happy” with anything less.

The Nobel Prize nod comes against the backdrop of a long-standing rivalry between the two American politicians. During the 2016 campaign, Clinton had labelled Trump’s supporters a “basket of deplorables” and described him as “temperamentally unfit” for office, often criticising his overtures towards Putin.
