MLS Side Vancouver Whitecaps Sign Thomas Müller From Bayern Munich

The 35-year-old forward has signed a deal with the Canadian side until the end of the 2025 season, with an option to extend it by another year.

German World Cup winner Thomas Müller has joined Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Vancouver Whitecaps, marking his exit from his childhood club Bayern Munich.

The 35-year-old striker has inked a contract with the Canadian club, keeping him at the club till 2025, with the possibility of a one-year extension.

Müller, who spent 25 years with the Bavarian club, won 13 Bundesliga titles with the German giants, along with multiple honours with the national team, in what has been a glittering career.

“I’m excited to come to Vancouver and help the team lift a title,” said Müller after the move.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the city, but my primary aim is to win.”

“I’ve had great discussions with Axel Schuster and Jesper Sorensen, and I’m eager to play in front of the home crowd and see the fans at BC Place as we push towards the playoffs.”

Whitecaps CEO Schuster said,

“He brings not just a winning mentality and superb footballing sense, but also an unmatched work rate that will uplift the whole squad.

Thomas is a born leader whose enthusiasm for the game is contagious.

This signing is a major statement by the club and the ownership — a game-changing moment for both the club and the city.

We’re delighted to welcome Thomas to Vancouver.”

The German star, who joined Bayern’s academy at the age of 10 in 2000, holds the record for the most appearances for the club, with 750 matches.

However, in April, Bayern confirmed that they would not be renewing his high-value contract for another year.

The World Cup champion played his final game for Bayern Munich in their 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinals, bringing an end to his trophy-filled journey with the club.

Müller, who stands alongside Toni Kroos as Germany’s most decorated footballer with 34 trophies, will now aim to add more titles before retiring.

His arrival is likely to boost Vancouver’s hopes in their pursuit of the Western Conference title and the MLS Cup. Reports suggest that Müller consulted former Germany teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, who ended his illustrious career at Chicago Fire, before making his decision.
