Neck-Deep In Floodwaters, UP Couple Carries Infant Overhead To Safety

Due to continuous heavy rainfall, severe flooding has been reported in several areas of Prayagraj, where a couple was seen holding their baby above their heads as they waded through the floodwaters to reach safety.

A heart-wrenching video from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh has emerged, capturing a couple walking through neck-deep floodwater, their hands raised to keep their infant safe from the rising waters.

The incident is said to have taken place in the Chhota Baghada locality of the city, where water levels kept increasing due to relentless rainfall.

The video, which has been widely circulated, shows murky water flooding the locality, with homes, vehicles, and temples submerged. Local residents were seen making their way out through the muddy floodwater, braving the risks to safeguard their families and carry essential belongings.

Persistent rainfall has caused the Ganga and Yamuna rivers to rise above the danger mark. Multiple areas in the city have gone underwater, with many houses inundated.

People are still grappling with worsening flood conditions, and there seems to be no respite in sight as the rains continue without pause.

The flood has also disrupted cremation services. As per a report by India Today, funeral rites at Rasulabad Ghat have been temporarily halted, as the ghat is now under water.

According to official records, floods in Uttar Pradesh had impacted 402 villages spread across 37 tehsils, affecting more than 80,000 people as of Sunday.

A total of 17 districts are reported to be flood-affected, including Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Lakhimpur Kheri, Varanasi, Agra, Auraiya, Chitrakoot, Fatehpur, Ballia, Banda, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj, Chandauli, Jalaun, Hamirpur, and Etawah.
