New Rafale Deal Between India and France
India continues to strengthen its defense sector by taking major steps towards military modernization. As part of this effort, India has now signed a new agreement with France’s Dassault Aviation company to procure additional Rafale fighter jets.
Under this deal, India will purchase a total of 26 Rafale aircraft for a cost of ₹63,000 crore. Among these, 22 will be single-seat fighter jets, and the remaining 4 will be twin-seat variants. On behalf of the Indian government, Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh signed the agreement. These aircraft are specifically being acquired for the Indian Navy’s operational needs.
Dassault Aviation, based in France, is renowned globally for manufacturing high-performance fighter jets. Previously, India had acquired 36 Rafale jets for its Air Force, significantly enhancing its aerial capabilities. Now, by procuring Rafale jets for the Navy, India is set to further strengthen its maritime defense forces.
These new Rafale aircraft will be deployed from India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant. With this addition, the Indian Navy is poised to become one of the most powerful naval forces in the Asian region. These fighter jets will play a critical role in protecting India’s maritime boundaries and will allow for rapid response and strategic operations when necessary.
