No Ceasefire Breach Along LoC in Poonch Area: Indian Army
Issuing a clarification that there has been no ceasefire breach along the Line of Control, the Indian Army has urged people not to circulate unverified news.
A few hours after reports emerged of a ceasefire breach by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch, the Indian Army refuted them on Tuesday.
In its clarification, the Army stated that no such incident had taken place along the Line of Control (LoC) and appealed to refrain from spreading unverified claims.
“There have been certain media and social media reports regarding a ceasefire breach in the Poonch region. It is clarified that there has been NO ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. Kindly refrain from sharing unverified information,” the Indian Army stated.
Reports of cross-border firing from the Pakistan side in the Mankote sector of Poonch district were circulating on social media platforms. Citing “official sources”, the reports claimed that firing had occurred for about 15 minutes between both sides, but no injuries or casualties were reported.
Although the Army dismissed the information, it comes just a few days after two heavily armed militants — suspected to be from the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — were gunned down in an intense encounter on July 30, foiling an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Poonch district. This happened shortly after security forces neutralised three hardcore terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in a forested area of Srinagar.
The Army had stated that the July 30 operation, codenamed ‘ShivShakti’, dealt a serious blow to the malicious plans of Pakistan-backed terror outfits that continue to support acts of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. War-like materials including two assault rifles with ammunition, a pistol with ammunition, hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), medicines, communication devices and other logistical items were recovered during the operation.
