The central government has categorically stated that there is no possibility of granting special status to Bihar.

In this context, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government today said that Bihar cannot be granted special status as per the Union Ministerial Committee Report 2012.
Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a letter to United Janata Dal Lok Sabha member Ramprith Mandal, said, “The National Development Council has in the past given special status for project assistance to certain states for some important reasons to be considered. Based on the existing criteria of the National Development Council, Bihar was found to be unlikely to be granted special status,” he said
