The central government has categorically stated that there is no possibility of granting special status to Bihar.

BJP has formed a coalition government at the centre. The BJP is running a coalition government with the United Janata Dal and Telugu Desam parties in the National Democratic Alliance. Due to this, the opposition parties are saying that the coalition parties will give severe pressure to the BJP.

It was at this stage that Nitish Kumar’s United Janata Dal, which is part of the alliance, insisted on special status for Bihar. The JTU, which has been insisting on this demand for a long time, emphasized its demand in the all-party meeting held yesterday (Sunday). In this context, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government today said that Bihar cannot be granted special status as per the Union Ministerial Committee Report 2012.

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, in a letter to United Janata Dal Lok Sabha member Ramprith Mandal, said, “The National Development Council has in the past given special status for project assistance to certain states for some important reasons to be considered. Hilly and rugged terrain, low population density, economic and Such special status was granted considering the backwardness of infrastructure and the impossibility of generating sufficient funds. Based on the existing criteria of the National Development Council, Bihar was found to be unlikely to be granted special status,” he said
