Odisha Minor Girl Set Ablaze Dies in Delhi; New Twist Emerges in Police Investigation
A 15-year-old girl from Odisha’s Puri district, who was allegedly set on fire by unknown individuals on July 19, tragically passed away in Delhi AIIMS, two weeks after the horrific incident. While her mother’s initial complaint claimed that the girl was abducted and set ablaze by unidentified persons, the police have now revealed new findings that suggest no external involvement in the case.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed sorrow over the loss.
“I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of the victim in the Balanga incident. Despite all efforts by the government and the round-the-clock care by the expert medical team at AIIMS Delhi, her life could not be saved,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The teenager, who had suffered 75% burn injuries, was first treated at the Pipili Community Health Centre before being shifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced care. Unfortunately, despite best efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Speaking to the media after the tragic development, the girl’s father Himmat Ali, emotionally said:
“I don’t want to blame anyone. Everyone prayed for my daughter, regardless of religion. She was fine when she was with us. I don’t know how this happened. Please keep me and my family away from politics.”
Her uncle added that the family holds no grudges or accusations against anyone and expressed gratitude to the government and medical team:
“God took her away from us. We can’t blame anyone. The government extended full support, and the doctors were excellent. Her father is heartbroken and unable to speak. It pains us to see him in this state.”
Police Probe Takes a New Turn
The case has now taken a new direction. While the girl’s mother initially alleged kidnapping and assault by strangers, the Odisha Police have made a fresh statement, indicating that their investigation points to no third-party involvement.
In their official communication on X, Odisha Police said:
“We are deeply saddened by the victim girl’s death in the Balanga incident. The investigation has been carried out with utmost sincerity and is now in its final stages. As per current findings, there is no evidence of involvement by any other individual. We urge everyone to refrain from making sensitive remarks during this painful time.”
Political and Public Reaction
Former Odisha Chief Minister also expressed condolences:
“Deeply anguished to learn of the girl’s passing in Balanga while undergoing treatment at AIIMS. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this heartbreaking time. May God give them strength to endure this loss,” he wrote on X.
The tragic case has sparked conversations about safety, mental health, and the need for sensitive handling of such incidents, even as the investigation nears its conclusion.
