On the occasion of Thaipusam, the Vairatherottam was held with great pomp at the Thiruparankundram Subramania Swamy Temple.
The Theppam festival at the Thiruparankundram Subramania Swamy Temple, the first of the six abodes of the Tamil God Muruga, began on the 29th with the hoisting of the flag. Every day, Subramania Swamy would travel on various vehicles and bless the devotees.
On the 9th day of the festival, special abhishekams and aradhanas were held for Subramania Swamy at the Utsavar shrine. Subsequently, Subramania Swamy would travel on the Vairatherottam near the 16-foot mandapam with the deity. Devotees pulled the chariot that came through 4 streets and had darshan of the deity.
