One Student Dead, 11 Hurt After Tomato-Laden Tempo Runs Over Them in Nashik

According to police, the tempo, travelling towards Pimpalgaon, went out of control and rammed into a group of students crossing the highway.

One student lost his life and 11 others sustained injuries after a tomato-laden tempo ran over them in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Friday evening, police said.

The mishap took place around 5:30 pm at Sogras Phata in Chandwad taluka on the Mumbai–Agra highway.

As per police, the tempo, travelling towards Pimpalgaon, veered out of control and hit a group of students crossing the road.

The deceased has been identified as Akshay Ramesh Mahale. Among the injured is the mother of one student.

Several of the injured have been admitted to hospitals in critical condition, officials said.

State School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, who happened to be passing through the area at the time, took part in the rescue work and later met the injured at the hospital.

Chandwad MLA Rahul Aher also visited the accident spot.

Following the mishap, local residents staged a protest and blocked the highway, citing frequent accidents along this stretch.

The blockade was lifted after police intervened and assured necessary action.
