AIADMK co-ordinator Edappadi Palanisamy has demanded the perpetuation of daily wage and collective staff working in temples under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
In a statement, he said the commissioner of the charity had ordered the release of about 40,000 parishioners currently working in the temples.
As a result, more than 40,000 temporary workers working on a lump sum basis have lost their jobs. The livelihoods of their families are in question.
Therefore, I urge the Government of Tamil Nadu to abandon this unwarranted decision and make permanent the temple staff, who have been working for a long time on a daily wage and package at a low salary as I have already announced in the Assembly. Thus he has said.
