Parliament Monsoon Session: Manipur Debate In Rajya Sabha Today, Congress To Raise US Tariff Matter

In the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, the Rajya Sabha is scheduled to take up key legislation on Thursday, including a statutory resolution regarding the extension of President’s Rule in Manipur.

A resolution seeking approval for the continuation of the Proclamation dated 13 February 2025, concerning Manipur, for an additional period of six months starting from 13 August 2025, will be presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

At the same time, the Congress party is expected to raise the issue of the tariff hike imposed by the United States on Indian goods during the session on Thursday.

Congress MP Rajiv Shukla said on Wednesday, “We will raise all such matters in Parliament… When there is such strong friendship (between India and the US), why is Donald Trump troubling India?… This is a very wrong move by the US. The government calls Trump a friend, but in reality, he has hit out at us; Indian businesspersons will be negatively affected due to this.”

Meanwhile, after announcing a 25 per cent tariff on Indian imports, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that he is still open to discussions.
