PM Modi, Amit Shah Meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, amid the ongoing deadlock in Parliament over Bihar’s SIR exercise and US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Indian exports.

“Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” the official handle of Rashtrapati Bhavan posted on X. No details of the interaction were made public.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of a Parliamentary stalemate, with the opposition insisting on a discussion regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive being carried out in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Later in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also met President Murmu.

“Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan,” the President’s Secretariat posted on X.

Except for deliberations in both Houses on Operation Sindoor, Parliament has witnessed minimal proceedings since the Monsoon Session began on July 21.

The Prime Minister’s meeting with the President also comes shortly after US President Donald Trump imposed 25 per cent duties on Indian exports and warned of further punitive actions over India’s procurement of Russian oil and military hardware.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi visited Varanasi and released the 20th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, transferring over ₹20,500 crore directly into the bank accounts of 9.7 crore farmers.

With this instalment, total disbursement under the scheme since its launch has exceeded ₹3.90 lakh crore. Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme aims to supplement the financial requirements of landholding farmers by offering ₹6,000 annually, disbursed in three equal parts directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

During the visit, PM Modi also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development initiatives worth around ₹2,200 crore in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

On his 51st visit to his parliamentary constituency, the Prime Minister inaugurated widening and upgradation works of the Varanasi-Bhadohi road, Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar road, and the Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur, aimed at easing traffic on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura Road.
