PM Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Independence Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Rajghat in Delhi on India’s 79th Independence Day to honor the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Naya Bharat’, reflecting the government’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Sharing a photo from Rajghat on X, PM Modi wrote, “On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, I visited Rajghat to pay tribute to revered Bapu.”
From Rajghat, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Red Fort to hoist the national flag and deliver his 12th consecutive Independence Day address.
Upon reaching the Red Fort, PM Modi was welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who introduced Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi area.
This year’s celebrations highlighted the success of Operation Sindoor, with the operation’s logo displayed at Gyanpath and accompanied by themed floral arrangements. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma assisted in hoisting the tricolour, followed by flower petals being showered from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force—one carrying the national flag and the other the Operation Sindoor flag, piloted by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal.
In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi emphasized health and fitness, noting that obesity is becoming a major challenge for the nation. He urged every family to take this issue seriously, saying, “We must protect ourselves from obesity while promoting fitness and sports across the country.”
