Pope Francis Passes Away: Catholics Around the World Mourn

Pope Francis, the head of the Roman Catholic Church and spiritual leader to Catholics worldwide, passed away yesterday at the age of 88.

Born in Argentina, Pope Francis was elected as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church on March 13, 2013. He served in this esteemed position for 12 years. Due to old age, his health had been deteriorating over the past few months. On February 14, he was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome, Italy, after suffering from respiratory issues.

Doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and provided intensive treatment. After 38 days of hospitalization, he was discharged but continued to limit his public appearances and duties. He did, however, participate in recent Holy Week events, including Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Sunday Mass, where he delivered blessings to the gathered faithful.

Unfortunately, his condition worsened again, and despite intensive medical care, Pope Francis passed away. His death was officially confirmed by the Vatican, with Cardinal Kevin Farrell making the announcement. Following his passing, church bells rang throughout Rome, and the entire Vatican City plunged into mourning.

India has announced three days of national mourning in his honor. Catholics around the world are grieving the loss of their beloved leader, known for his humility, compassion, and commitment to social justice.

The funeral ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday at 8:30 AM at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Numerous global leaders, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, are expected to attend the ceremony.

After his passing, the Vatican released official photos of Pope Francis dressed in red vestments and bishop’s attire. His body is currently placed at the Santa Marta residence, where he lived during his papacy.
