PV Sindhu Only Seeded Indian Singles Shuttler at BWF World Championships 2025

PV Sindhu, the lone Indian singles player to be seeded at the BWF World Championships, will look to regain form after a patchy season.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is the only Indian singles player to secure a seeding at the upcoming BWF World Championships, as Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy have been ranked below the seeding cutoff, as per the rankings released on Friday. Notably, Sindhu remains the only Indian to have won a world championship title.

Sindhu has been seeded 15th among the 16 players in the women’s singles category, which is led by defending champion An Se Young. Two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi has been seeded fifth.

At the 2023 World Championships held in Copenhagen, India had two men’s singles players among the top 16 seeds — Prannoy at No. 9 and Lakshya at No. 11. This time, no Indian shuttler figures among the top 16 seeds in the men’s singles draw.

The seedings for the BWF World Championships were determined based on the world rankings issued on Friday.

Sindhu will aim to regain her big-match temperament after a season marked by inconsistency.

After making it to the quarterfinals at the India Open earlier this year, Sindhu has failed to reach the last eight in any tournament since.

Lakshya had a quarterfinal finish at the All England Open but struggled during the Asian leg of the tour.

Currently ranked 21st in the world, Lakshya has earned a reputation for punching above his weight at major competitions, and fans will hope that he steps up once again at the World Championships.

Prannoy, who claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 edition, is ranked 34th globally. He has not managed to reach the quarterfinal stage in any of the 11 tournaments he has played so far this season.

In the men’s doubles category, the former World No. 1 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are seeded ninth.

In women’s doubles, the pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand has been seeded 12th, while Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto are seeded 16th in mixed doubles.

China continues to hold a dominant position in mixed doubles, with the top two seeds — Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping and Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin — along with Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui (No. 7) and Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi (No. 12) also among the top-seeded pairs.
