In a video that is rapidly circulating online, 19-year-old Indian Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa is seen stumbling twice while trying to spell out his own name.

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the 19-year-old chess prodigy from India, had a light-hearted moment at the recently concluded chess event at the Esports World Cup held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, when he was asked to spell his name and fumbled twice.

In the now-viral video, Praggnanandhaa attempts to spell his name, saying, “P A R, Sorry, P R A G G, and then you add Anand’s to it, so… Uh, no, you add N first and then Anand and then H D A A at the end. P R A G G N A N A N D H A A.”

Carlsen Clinches Title

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen from Norway claimed the inaugural online chess title at the Esports World Cup. The 34-year-old grandmaster defeated World No. 8 Alireza Firouzja to lift the trophy.

The final match was played in a best-of-three format, with two four-game sets and a possible two-game decider. Carlsen, however, sealed the deal with a 2-0 win, registering 3-1 victories in both sets.

“It’s been an amazing event, unlike anything I’ve experienced before,” said Carlsen after receiving the gold-plated EWC trophy.

“I really hope this becomes a big part of chess going forward.

“Maybe next time we’ll be on an even bigger stage,” he added, appreciating the popularity of the tournament.

GM Hikaru Nakamura defeated GM Arjun Erigaisi 3.5-2.5 in a nail-biting contest to claim third place.

Praggnanandhaa Beats Carlsen in Vegas

Praggnanandhaa had earlier scored a victory against Norwegian World No. 1 Carlsen during the classification matches for third place at the Las Vegas Freestyle Chess event held in July. He had also defeated Carlsen in the quarterfinal classification rounds.

Playing with the white pieces in the third-place match, Pragg forced Carlsen to resign after 43 moves, marking his second win against the Norwegian in three days during the tournament in the USA.
